Graphology For Beginner

Some of my friends asked me about the recent thesis i have just completed about Graphology. I would like to share my thoughts and advise on this topic. Graphology is more usually known as handwriting analysis. It involves the study of handwriting with the aim of revealing the character and personality of the writer, including his or her strengths, weaknesses and abilities. As handwriting comes from the unconscious, it contains a great deal of information which can be useful for interpreting ones character. Any time we write, we are under the influence of emotions that dictate our mood at the time of writing. The brain transmits its instruction via the motor nervous system for the hand to carry out. This expression is a mixture of conscious thought and unconscious automatic responses learnt as part of the stimulation.Each individual’s handwriting is unique to them and so can reveal a lot about their nature and behavioural characteristics, such as aggression and manner. The technique of graphology is mainly used professionally today to help select personnel for key positions, marriage compatibility, guidance for school leavers as to what sort of career would suit them and for other personal use. It is an invaluable aid to the Human Resource Department. Graphology can analyse a person's personality without his knowledge that he is being analysed.
To analyse a handwriting, Writer need to provide : a) A sample of spontaneous handwriting which should be not less than 12 lines long b) It should include a signature and be written on plain paper (no lines) using a ballpoint or fountain pen. c) The sex and age of the writer must be known beforehand. Graphologist needs to prepare : a) A good quality magnifying glass b) A plastic ruler showing millimeters c) A protractor for assessing the slant of the writing Factors to be considered in handwriting analysis : Script size, slant, letters, pen strokes, pressure and overall significance of the layout. Other factors to consider include punctuation, signature, the pronoun ‘I’, capitals and loops.

There should not be any effect on the interpretation, regardless of whether the writer is left-handed or right-handed. It does not matter even if he/she wrote it with his/her foot or mouth. It's the brain that willed the handwriting to look a certain way, not the hand. Further, you can't force change your handwriting to change the way you think. However, one may change his thinking and his mood to have a new effect on handwriting.

You can't bluff a graphologist by forging your handwriting. Someone who tries to forge a handwriting has to fight against his own stamina. And if he gets too tensed up or too tired , he quickly reveals his true self. It is common place for us to change the style of our handwriting when expecting to please a certain reader. For example, someone may be by nature an introvert but really liked to be more extrovert. He may try to appear extrovert. If he succeed he can then be extrovert effortlessly. If he gets tired of the strain to be someone else, he will fail and revert back to his old self. Similarly , someone who wishes to be identified as extrovert by his handwriting forces himself to writing with a right slant. It's like telling himself constantly of his desire to change. Once again he may or may not succeed.

Signature is not the best way to analyse character from handwriting , for several reasons. Firstly, the Signature is sometimes illegible and different from the normal handwriting. Secondly, the lone signature do not give enough words and letters to help the graphologist in his/her judgement. But signature samples do have certain advantage. Firstly it is easy to collect; even through long period of time. Even for public figures whom you may not have easy access of a full sample of handwriting, the signature is next best alternative. Eg. Samples of signature from your boss. It give a glimpse of what the he/she aspire to be. A dot at the end of a signature tells us that the writer wish to have the last word in an argument.

So watch out guys and gals out there! My advice to you is that always write on a line paper to avoid unauthorised analysis of your handwriting and always dispose them (tear the piece of paper) in an appropriate manner.
